New Year plans for the EACPT

We wish all our national society and individual members all the best for the festive season and for 2016.

The New Year will see further major activities for the EACPT. These include:

The next EACPT Focus Meeting will be held from 6th to 9th October, 2016 in partnership with the Croatian Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics. The theme of the meeting is “How to Assess Medicines from Research to Clinical Practice".
The main objectives of this Focus Meeting are to increase awareness, knowledge and use of critical assessment pillars for medicinal products in everyday clinical practice in order to improve healthcare outcomes in affordable manner.

Planning is already well underway for the next biennial EACPT Congress, to be held in Prague from 23rd – 27th June in 2017. As part of Congress preparations, the next meeting of the EACPT Executive Committee will be in May in Prague.

Following the launch of a new individual associate membership for the EACPT, further working groups have been launched, complementing the established EACPT Education Working Group.These working groups provide excellent opportunities to become actively involved in the running of the EACPT.

News on next EACPT Congress in Prague: 23rd - 27th June, 2017

The next EACPT Congress will be held in Prague from 23rd – 27th June, 2017.
The Prague EACPT Congress in 2017 will provide an international scientific and educational

forum for discussion of clinical pharmacology and personalised pharmacotherapy. Themes will include the latest developments on effectiveness and safety of medicines, clinical pharmacology in clinical practice, innovative techniques, and advanced practices in topics such as drug discovery, drug development, new pharmacology and pharmacotherapy, safety in prescribing and updates on personalised medicines. 
The Congress will bring together a wide range of international delegates, including health professionals, clinical and life scientists, policy makers, professionals from the biotechnology and pharmaceutical communities and others interested in the spectrum from basic to clinical pharmacology and pharmacotherapy, and from drug discovery to regulatory affairs. The Congress will include a dedicated session for Young Pharmacologists. 
The following major EACPT Awards will be presented at the Congress.
The EACPT Lifetime Achievement Award is for outstanding contributions to the national and international benefits of clinical pharmacology for medicine, health care and patient safety.
 The EACPT Scientific Award is for the best scientific paper on a topic relevant to clinical pharmacology and therapeutics published by a European clinical pharmacologist over the period between EACPT congresses, based on nominations by the EACPT Council. Criteria are scientific quality, broader impact in science, and the importance of the work in the context of healthcare delivery.

EACPT Focus Meeting on How to Assess Medicines: Opatija, Croatia - 6th - 9th October, 2016

The next EACPT Focus Meeting will be held from 6th to 9th October, 2016 in partnership with the Croatian Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics.

The theme of the meeting is “How to Assess Medicines from Research to Clinical Practice".
The main objectives of this Focus Meeting are to increase awareness, knowledge and use of critical assessment pillars for medicinal products in everyday clinical practice in order to improve healthcare outcomes in affordable manner.

The meeting will include a combination of scientific podium lectures, interactive workshops and guided poster sessions covering three main pillars important for the critical assessment of medicinal products - efficacy, effectiveness, and economics (3E assessment).

There will be a dedicated session for Young Pharmacologists during the meeting. There will be an EACPT Scientific Communication Award for the best presentation by a young scientist. 

We will be guests in the Adriatic coastal town Opatija, Croatia. Opatija lies at the centre of the Kvarner Riviera with the longest tradition of providing quality conference venues in Croatia. Opatija’s very attractive geographic location, lush green scenery and a pleasant climate (45° 20’ north latitude) were some of the main reasons for its origins and the rapid development of its tourism from the end of the 19th century.  The venue – Grand Hotel 4 Opatijska Cvijeta –  is located in the very centre of Opatija and includes four buildings that were named after Opatija’s best-known flowers. The hotel has 223 rooms. The hotel also includes the large Tamaris congress centre, which has 7 multi-functional halls and the latest congress equipment.

Update from Barcelona on the EACPT

plan for future activities including its next Focus Meeting to be held in Opatija in Croatia from 6th - 9th October 2016 and the 13th biennial Congress of the EACPT, to be held in Prague, Czech Republic in June 2017. 

The theme of the October 2016 EACPT Focus Meeting is “How to Assess Medicines from Research to Clinical Practice? Efficacy, Effectiveness, and Economic – 3E Assessment”. The main objectives of this Focus Meeting are to increase awareness, knowledge and use of critical assessment pillars for medicinal products in everyday clinical practice in order to improve healthcare outcomes in affordable manner.

There were updates on the progress of current and new working groups for Young Pharmacologists, Ethics, Regulatory issues and Education.

There were also reports on interaction with other professional organisations and societies, including the European Medicines Agency, IUPHAR (the International Union of Pharmacology) and EPHAR (the European Federation of Pharmacology Societies) and an update on interactions with Clinical Therapeutics, the Official Journal of EACPT.

The 2019 EACPT Congress will be held in Stockholm and the 2021 EACPT Congress in Athens.

Join EACPT to access new video library of talks on medicines from 2015 Madrid Congress


The EACPT has just released a library of almost 60 videos of talks from the 2015 Madrid
Plaza Major, Madrid
Congress. These videos are now available for EACPT members within the members’ pages of the EACPT website. See below for the list of speakers and their topics, ranging from Alzheimer's to cancer, treating children, regulating medicines, the patient's voice, medicines for low resource global settings, biosimilars, and patient safety.
Access to the videos is free for Individual Associate members of the EACPT.
To view the videos as an existing EACPT member, open the ‘Publications’ drop down menu on the members' pages of the website.

Hear from EACPT Madrid Congress delegates from Spain, Turkey, Sweden, the UK, Romania and Brazil

The 12th biennial Congress of the European Association for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (http://eacpt.eu) was held in Madrid from 27th to 30th June 2015. Over 500 abstracts have been accepted for presentation as e-posters. 54 oral presentations were eligible for an award for the best talk. In this recording, young clinical pharmacologists from Spain discuss their careers, the EACPT and its latest Congress in Madrid with EACPT Secretary Donald Singer.
